When Space Channel asks to design a set for an entertainment / sci-fi / technology / current affairs show, what’s a nerd like me to say but Um…YES!
I walked into the meeting with a small lo-fi maquette (model) made of cardboard and they lovingly looked at me like I was insane.
The inspiration taken from many places, from a section of a wall from the Empire Strikes Back to the use of reflection in Blade Runner, to Star Trek, to even the little thing on the bottom right of the set. Yup, the flux capacitor. I also collaborated closely with Marvel Comics & DC Comics illustrator Ken Lashley (Spiderman, X-Men, Silver Surfer, you name it).
BSG was a major pop culture show in the sci-fi world so, naturally, when the show was ending, the good people at Space Channel hosted an after show where fans watched the episode together and talked the crap out of it afterwards. So we build the set for the show and the fans could be within this realm. It was like prom night.
